My passionate moment with the Ford Focus ST

Ford Focus ST- the yellow bubblebee

I am not a car critic, or a race driver. I have no formal training of any sort, I am just a regular girl who LOVES driving in any form.

I love cars, I have loved them all my life. Since watching and helping my dad fix and revamp my mother’s prized Volkswagen  Beetle and a friend’s beloved Chevrolet Nomad, I have had an unusual passion for cars.
Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way a petrol head and I have a very basic (read ‘minimal’) knowledge of how the internal combustion engine works. When you open the bonnet all I can tell you is where the water and oil go, but I love driving and am always looking for new driving experiences.

Another lifelong love is Ford.  From mum’s old Ford "bakkie" and the family Sapphire, to the two Fords I own today, I will always be a huge fan of the brand. Ford is, and always will be, my first choice.
So you can imagine my excitement when I was given the opportunity to drive the new Ford Focus ST!
Now I am not going to give you all the technical details of this vehicle. I am not going to talk about ratios and conversions. Those are the things I, as an average girl, skim over when reading other reviews. All I want to talk about is the experience. This is a stereotypical chick review of a cool car.

Looks
Ford Focus ST- yellow bumblebee
The ST we were given to play with is bright yellow. Now I am not generally a fan of yellow cars but I will admit the Sporty ST certainly suits the vivid yellow. It is a very sexy beastie with sharp lines and an almost aggressive stance.

Inside
The interior is sleek and refined. The seats hug you like a lover and everything you need is within easy reach. It is so modern, it’s almost like a cockpit and I must admit I found it a bit intimidating at first. I gave up trying to adjust my seat when I couldn’t find the lever.  I’m also a bit confused as to why the start button is to the left of the steering wheel rather than the right, as would be the natural assumption.  A good read of the manual or a crash course at the dealer is needed to truly enjoy all the luxuries.

Driving
Ford has really impressed me with this car.  Although the pedals are very sensitive, they have balanced them out, unlike other new cars I've been in where only the brakes were super sensitive. After a few jerks I got used to it and after that driving, braking and even changing gears was as smooth as silk.  My route took me through a bit of traffic, but achieving clutch control was no strain at all.
All this said, it was once I reached the highway that the ST got to truly shine.  She responded so enthusiastically it was like she read my mind. Overtaking slower vehicles, the ST responded quickly and smoothly like a Ford should. I like a car that I know will respond, so that I can confidently nip past cars and through gaps and the ST did not disappoint. I asked and she gave 110%. There was no lag at all in the power and she responded just as quickly when I eased off the accelerator, so that I could smoothly slow down once I’d gotten into the gap.
The side mirrors come with the omni-vision section which I feel should be standard with all vehicles, but especially one of this size.
The sound system is fantastic, crystal clear and powerful.
All in all, a great experience.

Ford Focus ST- the elegant white lady

Would I buy it? Yes, just not in yellow.

Would I recommend it to friends?  My guy friends,  yes,  but to be honest, I think most of my female friends would be just as happy with the regular Focus and the ST would be wasted on them.

See? Much better in white.

Ford Model T

Ford Model T, a family car

The first production Model T Ford was assembled at the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit on October 1, 1908. Over the next 19 years, Ford would build 15,000,000 automobiles with the Model "T" engine, the longest run of any single model apart from the Volkswagen Beetle. From 1908-1927, the Model T would endure with little change in its design. Henry Ford had succeeded in his quest to build a car for the masses.

With the development of the sturdy, low-priced Model T in 1908, Henry Ford made his company the biggest in the industry. By 1914, the moving assembly line enabled Ford to produce far more cars than any other company. The Model T and mass production made Ford an international celebrity.

Ford Model T- "Any colour as long as its black"

By 1918, half of all cars in America were Model T's. However, it was a monolithic black; as Ford wrote in his autobiography, "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black".[17] Until the development of the assembly line, which mandated black because of its quicker drying time, Model T's were available in other colors, including red. The design was fervently promoted and defended by Ford, and production continued as late as 1927; the final total production was 15,007,034. This record stood for the next 45 years. This record was achieved in just 19 years from the introduction of the first Model T (1908).

Mustang Monday

1968 FORD MUSTANG A/C PS PB RESTORED 302 C4 LUXURY INTERIOR SHELBY

You all know how much I LOOOOOVE mustangs, so a day dedicated to beautiful mustangs is right up my alley. Every monday I will post some pics of a gorgeous, well looked after mustang. If you have or find any, please send for me to ad to the collection

This lovely lady goes to show that muscle cars can look equally gorgeous in softer colours. I must say she looks exquisite in this blue, really elegant and classy.

Ford really knew how to make sexy cars back then. Their cars these days aren't bad but nothing that really pulls at your heart strings and makes your eyes pop out.

Tribute to a muscle car!

My ode to the Ford mustang

I have yet to come across a car that can make my heart race like the mustang can. The mustang makes me think of taking a road trip down route 66, of roaring engines, of cubic inches, of V8's and V12's. It is, to me, the ultimate muscle car. The sleek sexy lines, the hardcore evil nose. The Ford mustang was and will always be, the seductress of the muscle cars.
The black widow, she'll lure you in with good looks but packs a powerful bite behind those smooth lines.

She was the first of the "pony cars" and the only original pony car to remain in uninterrupted production over five decades.

She has appeared in over 500 movies. Starting the James Bond movie "Goldfinger" And in Bullit, with Steve McQueen, they created the 9 minute plus unscripted chase scene through the streets of San Francisco that has long been revered as the best chase ever in a movie.

She has been in both "Gone in 60 seconds" films.Who could ever forget Nicolas Cages' characters 'unicorn', the magnificent "Eleanore" a silver and black 1968 Shelby GT500.

Eleanore

More recent movies include Hollywood Homicide where Harrison Ford and Josh Harnett drove around in a 2003 Saleen S281, War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise and his 1966 Shelby GT 350, Reno 911 with the police cars being 2006 Mustangs and the latest being I Am Legend starring Will Smith who drives a red 2007 Shelby GT500 during the opening scene through the deserted streets of New York City.

There are four generations of mustangs, I myself do not like the styling of generation 2 and 3 as I feel they do not capture the spirit of this gorgeous muscle car. The 4th generation and latest Mustang though, is exquisite, finally a new mustang worthy of this title, worthy of such ancestors as the Fastback and the Shelby.

So which do you prefer? Old or new?

or is there another muscle that makes your heart race?

Experiences: Largest Ford Parade-Guiness World Record

What can I say.....I WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!! It was fantastic!

Nothing can compare to that kind of experience.
It was a great day and.....we totally smashed the previous record.

"The largest parade of Ford cars consited of 586 vehicles in an event organized by Ford ST Owners SA Forum (South Africa) at the Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, South Africa, on 27 February 2010."

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-3000/largest-parade-of-ford-cars/

When we arrived, we were all organised into colours and lined up along the oval track, what a site to behold!
100s of Fords in every shape, size and colour, from the vintage models to the brand new. After getting us all together....eventually, we all took to the track.

Fords in front of us, Fords behind us, we were so many, we took up both tracks!

What a moment to remember!
